Why have a boat you need to moor when you can DRIVE one out of the water?
If you’ve ever found weighing anchor and climbing on and off jetties a bit of a bore, then the Iguana 29 could be just the thing.
It’s an amphibious boat-car with retractable caterpillar tracks that enables it to be driven in and out of the water.
Designed by Frenchmen Tanguy le Bihan and Antoine Fritsch Associés, the Iguana can reach a brisk 35 knots at sea thanks to its big 300hp engine, but on land it can only trundle along at 5mph because it relies on a smaller 40hp combustion engine out of the water.
Life's a beach: The Iguana 29 is just at home on land as it is at sea
On water: The yacht can reach a speedy 35knots on sea
Making a splash: The luxury boat can fit 10 people on board
It has room for 10 people on board and boasts a few touches of luxury, such as a teak floor, table and sundeck. The Iguana is kind to the environment, too, as it’s claimed that the the amount of pressure it exerts on the land is less than a human footprint thanks to the weight being distributed by its all-terrain caterpillar tracks.
This kind of versatility doesn’t come cheap, though - the craft costs a cool £375,000.
That may seem expensive to many, but the makers claim it’s money well spent, with the Iguana being ‘characterised by elegance, performance and a quality of finish to satisfy even the most discerning clients’.
It's a hull of a boat: The boat also has catapillar track beneath it
